It’s settled between the bays of Tri Porte and Nova. The bay is dominated by the turquoise color of the sea, exceptional clarity, and green pine forest around it. From the end of Nova, an unpaved road leads to the very end of the bay. There are only a few houses there, so you avoid all the crowds in this place. From the middle of the bay, there is a walking path to St. Georg's church. This part is very good for cyclists. The turquoise blue sea just invites you to swim and dive. Slatina cove is a completely undiscovered pearl, a guarantee of peace and an excellent holiday in nature.

In the past, small fishing lodges were built here, which today are being converted for tourists to become an oasis of peace and complete relaxation. Homes in Stiniva are rare, so there are no neighbors in the immediate vicinity. There are two pebble beaches in Stiniva and both are beautiful. There are never too many bathers on them and they still provide plenty of privacy. In front of the bay are two small islands - reefs, which make this bay even more romantic. Stiniva is mostly under olive groves today. It is facing the island of Hvar from every corner there is a view of the Korcula channel and the blue of the Adriatic.
However, Potirna has been inhabited in the distant past, so today we know of many Illyrians. Old relatives also settled down, and we know about the remains of several farm buildings from that time, the so-called. Rustic villa. It is even mentioned in one of the theories of the first Greek settlement on the Adriatic islands. According to written documents, we know that the first Greek settlement was on the island of Korcula and it was built in the 6th century BC, but until now it does not know the exact location. Experts are settled between Potirna and peninsula on which today's town of Korcula is. It is today surrounded by olive groves, and the slopes of the surrounding hills are covered with pine forests. Aerial view of the surroundings of Vela Luka reveals a dense network of interlocking stone walls, which testifies to the hard work population. The people of this place built by farmers, traders and fishermen are valuable and versatile. It is interesting that the population, whether they were self-taught or academics are very prone to all kinds of art. This is a place for artists, painters, sculptors, poets, musicians and songs. Vela Luka is home to Chappelle singing. The earliest organized klapa from Vela Luka already celebrated their 50th anniversary (Vela Luka and Hum), a famous choir "Osjak" in 2016 celebrated 40 years of work. In Vela Luka in 1968 was held the first International Meeting of Artists. This is an event which is permanently marked by cultural and artistic life of the place and brought a new perspective to the urban development. If from today's perspective looking at the international meetings of Artists, held at the end of the 60's and the 70's of the last century, we can conclude that they are a reflection of the aspirations toward European unity, achieved through dialogue created between East and West art. Artists from around the world, different artistic approaches came to Vela Luka and created the mosaics as collective work, and left these mosaics art work to the people of Vela Luka permanent ownership.

The Island of Korcula belongs to the group of islands in central Dalmatian. The length of the island is 47 km; the average width is from 5.3 to 8 km and stretches from the east to west. It is characterized by an indented coastline, a variety of known and hidden coves, and a large number of islands of which there are about 50. The road network is quite developed, and to most of the coves can be reached by road or short pedestrian distances. It holds the position of Croatians sixth largest island, but with the most population. Suitable conditions for the life of people here are found since prehistoric times, and since then has been almost continuously inhabited, so this is an island which has richest history in the Adriatic. A vast majority of this history and traditions to this day the local population have managed to preserve.

About the inhabitants of the Island in prehistoric times we have witnessed one of the richest archaeological sites from that time in the Adriatic which is found in a cave (Vela Spila) above Vela Luka. Greeks settled here in the 6th century BC where they found Illyrian tribes, and were assimilated with them, which only written documents remain, Lumbarda Psephisma (decision) on the distribution of land and property rights. Excavations that began in 2012 lead to the discovered of an Illyrian town on the hill Kopila near Blato. The town was in boom between 4th -1st century BC. Romans occasionally come to the island, and then settled and built a rustic villa in the 3rd century. AC. On the arrival of Croatians they inhabit the island, accepted Christianity and built the church of which are the oldest is St. Cosmas and Damian in the field of Blato, built in the 11th century, on foundations of a chapel from the 6th century. Through the turbulent centuries of history, there was alternate power and control over Korcula. Thus, for some time belonged to the Byzantine Empire, it was part of the Venetian Republic, the Republic of Dubrovnik, and Croatian-Hungary, France during the Napoleonic conquests, Austria-Hungarian Empire and so on.

On the island an exceptionally mild Mediterranean climate prevails with the insolation from 2600-2700 hours per year and an average annual temperature of around 16 degrees, summers are not too hot but the warm and dry, and winters are not cold, the fall is good for swimming, lazing in the sun, cycling, and then spring brings scents awakened nature, so the spring walks especially nice and pleasant.

Korcula is covered with wild, aromatic, medicinal and edible plants. The original vegetation of the island is that of low bushes and coastal oak and because oak is dark ancient Greeks when they saw Korcula gave the name Korkyra Melaina - Black Korcula. They brought the culture of vines and olive trees, which are major crops till this day. Many experts agree that the Korculan olive oil, which has received the designation of origin, one of the best olive oils in the world. Coastal Oak is now less frequent, and was replaced by forests of pine. Korcula is home to several endemic plant species, the most famous is the Brown Orchid that grows throughout the spring in the western part of the island.

Like the entire eastern Adriatic coast and the island of Korcula are made of dolomite and limestone soil, which means that it is characterized by abundance of caves. Although cave research has been carried out for decades, thus far more than 160 caves been found on the island and one of the most beautiful was discovered in 2015 near the town of Korcula: deep pit about 25 meters with a small lake.

The main interests of Korcula’s artisans were that of stone cutting and ship building. That is how the stone-masters of the island turned into a beautiful polished stone gem. Although today we do not know the exact time when the town was developed on founded it is first mentioned in the 10th century. It then soon turns into a developed urban environment as evidenced by the Statute of the town and island of Korcula from 1214. On several occasions, Korcula was under Venetian rule, and the influences of the Venetian Republic greatly contributed to the development of the town. Korcula is the hometown of Marco Polo, the world famous travel writer.

One of the peculiarities of the town is Moreska. Since played in numerous cities and towns of the Mediterranean, only in Korcula they have managed to preserve this dance that has been played for 500 years. Next to the cathedral of St. Mark is the Bishop’s House with Abbey Treasury, famous for the works of Dalmatian and Venetian artists.

Martin Bok is a beautiful pebble beach situated 7km away from Vela Luka. There is parking for this bay at the end of a road which then has a very nicely landscaped footpath to the beach. Pleasant walk through the pine forest to the bay takes 5-10 minutes. After the walk, you are welcomed by beautiful scenery of the beach: all shades of blue alternating from turquoise to blue sea, blue sky up to the grey-blue of Hvar in the distance. The beach can be reached by bicycle. Though far away, this beach is a popular destination for swimming, in summer afternoons it is full of swimmers, but because of its vastness, there is always room for all.

Due to the good insolation and poor rainfall, olive oil from this region has an exceptional quality. The aerial view of this area is breath taking, revealing a braided network of stone walls. Gentle hills, like ocean waves slowly climb and descend down to a deep sheltered bay. In the middle of the bay there is a pebble beach and other beaches are rocky and partly paved. The bay is facing south, which is on inside of the Vela Luka Bay, with views of the horizon and the island Kamenjak. From Vela Luka it is situated between 6 and 7 km away and reachable by road, which mostly ends into gravel road. Homes are mostly with large gardens, which give guests the atmosphere of privacy, but not isolation.

Faces the bay of Vela Luka and adorned with the view of the islet of Osjak. Gentle cove with pebble beach, is ideal for swimming with the children. The area, unfortunately, has no public electrification, but all the facilities for rent have solar power and / or generators that the accommodations are comfortable. With the judicious use of electric power, this the lack of guests would not notice. The bay is slowly transformed into a resort, because in the bay there is the possibility renting of sun loungers and kayaks. To hire a kayak, we recommend that you book them in advance and arrange their use. Also, in the bay started working a small family restaurant which with simplified menu offering is served enjoyment in the evenings along the coast with original atmosphere that you need to experience.
